Better, more expensive service

2020-06-02 By Antonis Christofides

Hello all,

Last time I mentioned a bicycle shop owner who didn’t know when the shipment of bells would arrive. I also implied he was probably using a cheap logistics service.

This was not the only problem. Any time I asked for any solution he was typically unable to provide it. Eventually I stopped even asking, although I passed in front of the shop every day. He soon went out of business.

Was the (allegedly) cheap logistics service a contributing factor to his failure? It probably was. A businessman who wants to provide a great service to his customers will choose great providers. If you trust that your drivers are carrying on their duties responsibly and professionally, you are probably paying them well.

While asking for bids and choosing the cheapest option may be common, I believe there are always many businesses who are willing to pay for a better service.

Regards,

Antonis
