IT is hard

2019-11-28 By Antonis Christofides

Adding automation to a logistics business (like any business) can be hard. If you don’t have experience with IT, it’s worse.

Someone will tell you you need 5k for a particular project, when in fact you might need 50k.

Someone else will ask you for 50k and use it to do the mediocre (and possibly useless) 5k work on a 50k budget. Good IT people are expensive, and the profitability has attracted less capable people who charge as much.

How do you get out of this mess, short of postponing automation to eternity? This is a hard question, and I don’t have the answer. I’m interested in your perspective.
